Yesterday I featured Overstock’s oval walnut coffee table. I searched again and I found another oval walnut coffee table. This one is from another company called Adesso. They started in 1994 and produces a wide range of furniture products including coffee tables.

This coffee table looks almost similar to the one that overstock is selling. You can click this link to see my thoughts on the overstock version of oval walnut coffee table.

The Difference

When you first look at the two coffee tables, you cannot really tell the difference between the two. However, if you look carefully at the specs, there is minute difference in the size. Here is the comparison.

Size Comparison between Overstock’s and Adesso

• Width - Overstock (48″/1.2 metres) vs Adesso (39.5″/ 1 metres)
• Depth - Overstock (28″/ 0.7 metres) vs Adesso (24″ / 0.6 metres)
• Height - Overstock (20″/ 0.5 metres) vs Adesso (16.75″ / 0.42 metres)

Actually the difference in size is not really that huge. The coffee table from overstock is just a bit bigger than the Adesso’s. However, the most notable difference is in the position of the shelf below the top of the coffee table. Note also in the shape of the curves in the table legs. For the Adesso coffee table, it is more pronouced.

As you can see, this is coffee table from Overstock. The shelf is much much lower than Adesso’s coffee table. Which one is better? I would say, it depends very much on you. Which one do you like more?

The other notable difference is in color. Abesso’s coffee table uses a dark walnut veneer(veneer is a thin layer of superior wood). It is more towards the color of dark chocolate. The color for overstock’s model is more towards the color of coffee.

My thoughts

I am not siding with either coffee tables. I like the position of the shelf for the overstock’s coffee table. Simply because I’m lazy, I like to rest my feet somewhere and the position of the shelf is perfect. Also, because of the bigger gap, you can put much more things under the table.

About the Adesso’s coffee table, i love the pronouced curves. But I wish the shelf would be a bit smaller. From what I see, the bottom shelf appears to be abit too big for the coffee table.

I also did a check on the specs for the Adesso’s oval walnut coffee table. It appears that they are using brentwood to make the table. According to Wikipedia, Brentwood is made by steaming and bending wood into curve shapes. I am not sure about the overstock’s coffee table too. I cant find info on that. If anyone manages to find information on that, please that me know.

I have a question to ask you. What kind of lifestyle do you actually desire? A simple and relaxed lifestyle? When you talk about colors in Western Cultures, brown represents nature or warmth. Therefore, if you are considering such a lifestyle or ambience in your living room, I would suggest you consider this oval walnut coffee table.

Overstock’s Oval Walnut Coffee Table

I did a search on google and found that Overstock was carrying this walnut colored coffee table. Its USD$179.99. You need to assembly it yourself. I do not think that should be a problem. It sure dont add up to over 10 pieces. Its 20 inches high that’s slightly over 0.5 metres.

Design

My first impression is of course, though it’s simple, it’s elegant. The color looks pretty soothing too, at least to me. I wonder how did the designer thought of something so clever. He made the legs of the coffee tables curved towards the inside. Even though the top of the table is just oval in shape, by changing the design of the coffee table legs, the style of this oval walnut coffee table is enhanced in another way.

Functions

Though the design is simple, the designer did not forget to add something. The one thing called function is not left out. I guess many people would think a table is just a base with 4 legs supporting it. Well, not for this coffee table. Just take a look at the base. It comes with storage functions. I think that is very clever use of a design. What would I do with it besides leaving my books or magazines there? I would put my leg on top of it. A leg raise!

My Thoughts

My thoughts for this oval walnut coffee table is this is a case where design meets functions. If you are looking for something simple, this one will do. It really maximize space usage by means of clever design. I read reviews on overstock. People are saying that the quality of this table is pretty solid. My suggestion for you, If you do not want your guest to see what’s under the table. Add a table cloth to cover everything. A yellow or white table cloth would go along with the walnut color.
