Hydra Table by Hydra Design

I found a pretty interesting coffee table. This adjustable coffee table allows you to adjust its height.

You can transform it from a coffee table to a dining table. Just by the use of the levers(similar to those found at bottom of chairs)

That’s very fun…

However, I do wish they change something.

The lever used to raise/change the height of the coffee table? Maybe they can design a shorter one.

But then, they made that because of a reason. Engineering principles.

Here’s the animated one.

Have you ever purchased a coffee table only to realise that you didn’t really like the height?

What should the height of coffee table be?

77 Habits of Highly Creative Interior Designers

Inside the book, 77 Habits of Highly Creative Interior Designers(aff link) a number of interior designers talks about tips on how to style and decorate your home in the most creative way.

I have the book with me right now.

Its pretty colorful. Basically, they list the 77 tips(aff) in the whole book with 1 tip and picture, occupying every 2 pages.

Advice for Coffee Table Height

I feel it really depends on your preference.

Some of the designers recommend that you have your coffee table low, not higher than your seat.

There are others who who coffee tables to be large and tall.

Thomas Jayne advices that high coffee tables tend to create a formal and old-fashioned feeling.

On the other hand large and low coffee tables are generally more durable and allow you to place your feet on the room to relax.

My Advice

I feel coffee tables are very important because they are the point where you actually chat/network with people, over a cup of hot coffee.

So the ideal coffee should not be too TALL. You do not want your coffee table to end up like a dining room table.

If you are looking for something different, try using a pair of tables, to create a special combination.

A coffee table that is wide and large enough will also fit the occasion.

After all, the living room is meant to be a cozy place for relaxation right?

If you like more advice, get the book here.
