Circular Marble Coffee Table by Oswaldo Borsani

Photo from Artinfo

I found this circular marble coffee table. The marble is really classy.

This coffee table is by Mallett Antiques designed by Oswaldo Borsani.

The table is dated 1965. Just nice. The same age as Singapore.

What I am concern is the weight of the coffee table. I have a HUGE marble table at home and its weighs almost a ton.

What do you think?

Yellow Birch Coffee Table

Photo from hometone.org

I found this tablehere.

The company is called Lorna Lee John Lee Design(LLJM).

Its called Yellow Birch Coffee Table.

This table is made of hundreds of yellow birches combined together.

Size

It measures 60″ by 35″ by 15″.

I think its a very innovative idea. It gives a very antique/ancient feel to your living room.

If you love chinese tea, just place it on top and it will be perfect!

Comments?

P.S. Yellow Birch is a type of hardwood found in the States.

Chinoiserie Coffee Table Pattern

Photo From Wikipedia

When I first came across this Chinoiserie Coffee Table, i wonder, I thought, what on earth is Chinoiserie? It does not look like an english word to me. Never mind the word coffee table. Let us check on Chinoiserie first. I was curious that’s why I went to google.com and check.

What Wikipedia Says

According to Wikipedia, it says

Chinoiserie refers to a recurring theme in European artistic styles since the seventeeth century, which reflects Chinese art and is characterized by the use of fanciful imagery of an imaginary China, by asymmetry in format and whimsical contrasts of scale, and by attempts to imitate Chinese porcelain and the use of lacquerlike materials and decoration.”

Well, do you understand that? First I need to understand the word “whimsical“. Sorry, my english is not that good. So if you english is better than mine, bear with me. I went to check, whimsical means “erratic or unpredictable“.

Wikipedia also attempts to define Chinoiserie. Chinoiserie means Chinese-esque and-esque means ressembling. So effectively, Chionseries means it resembles Chinese. Complicated right?

Ok. Chinoiserie simply refers to decorative work produced under the influence of the Chinese. Simple? It was particularly popular in Europe during the 18th century. Even till now, people are still incorporating such work of art on furnitures.

Where do you find Chinoiserie

Very often, you would find chinoiserie on porcelains jugs and also on lamps. It is commonly found on coffee tables too.

Here is a picture of a chinoiserie plate.

I think the Chinoiseries Coffee Table is certainly not for everyone. It is more suitable if you are going for the oriental theme and design look. Otherwise, it will more or less affect the balance of your living room if your current theme is more towards western or contemporary. What do you think?
